Tom Murry is a husband & father, Army veteran, attorney, state prosecutor, and proven conservative. Tom grew up as a preacher’s kid and a teacher’s kid which instilled the values of faith, family, & hard-work. Tom and his wife are the proud parents of 2 teenage girls & a young son.

Meet Tom
Tom believes in the original meaning of the Constitution and that the plain meaning of words should guide Constitutional and statutory interpretation. As a former legislator, Tom understands the separation of powers and believes in judicial restraint. He understands how laws are made and as a State prosecutor, he understands how laws are executed in the courtroom. The Judiciary is an independent branch of government, and other branches of government are responsible for policy-making and carrying out laws.
Tom has served as an assistant district attorney (prosecutor), and as part of executive leadership at the NC Judicial Branch working with the Chief Justice. He has also worked with small businesses on regulatory issues and insurance claims.
Tom serves as vice-chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Criminal Justice Section. He has served as an adjunct at Regent University School of Law since 2020.
Tom serves as a Judge Advocate in the NC Army National Guard. He was deployed to the middle east with an engineer battalion in 2017-18.
Additionally, from 2019-20, Tom served as a full-time legal assistance attorney helping Soldiers and their family members, as well as military retirees with their legal needs.
Tom served nearly a decade in elected office at the municipal and legislative levels. As a legislator, Tom was recognized as one of the top 10 most effective members in Raleigh and was the primary sponsor of voter ID legislation and a regulatory reform bill that eliminated over 1400 regulations.
